Many things get overlooked when it comes to the aesthetics of your home, and bed sheets are one of these things. Different than most other forms of home decoration and improvement, bed sheets are not only overlooked but are also very difficult to coordinate properly when it comes to the overall look of your bedroom.
The most complicated thing about bed sheets is that they are not seen to as many visitors in your home when compared to other kinds of fabric. Curtains and even towels are seen by more visitors in your home than bed sheets.
Because of this, many are given the false impression that the only function that bed sheets have is to make sure they are comfortable while sleeping or sitting in their bed. While this is a sought after function that cannot be ignored, it also cannot be ignored that bed sheets can and should also be used for home decoration and improvement.
The subtle visual effects that bedsheets have on the brain
When we are young, we are told to make our bed after waking up. My parents, specifically my father, preached this to me quite often, and I never understood until later on in my life how important it was.
Our brains are constantly scanning things for information. One of the reasons why the cliche of “we only use 10% of our brains” exists is because our brains spend about 90% of its energy trying to “organize” things. Despite what many believe, our brains are always active.
Making sense of a bed that is not made or a room that is cluttered is no exception to this. This is why a disorganized environment can lead to anxiety issues, and it is why we are told as children to make our beds; it is to free our brains up for things that are more important to us.
What does this have to do with bedsheets? If your bedsheets depict any form of disorganization, it will not only reflect badly on your own sense of design, but it will also unintentionally create an air of disorganization, subtle as it may be.
Because of this, it is advantageous to choose bed sheets that are not only visually appealing, but not overwhelming to the human eye. Your bedroom is the last place that you want disorganized, and choosing the right bed sheets will make a bedroom one ounce more organized.
Which bed sheets are best?
There are two things to look for when choosing bed sheets: Comfort and aesthetics. One mistake that a lot of people make is that they believe that they are forced into choosing between bed sheets that are aesthetically pleasing but not comfortable or bed sheets that are comfortable but do not look too impressive.
This does not necessarily need to be the case. One type of bed sheets that are becoming more and more common are egyptian cotton bed sheets. These are bed sheets are not only very comfortable, but can also be coordinated to make nearly any bed or bedroom look much better than before.
This being said, not all egyptian cotton bed sheets are created equal. When it comes to comfort, there are certain things to look for, such as thread count. The higher the thread count, the larger the bed sheet.
This is something to keep in mind when selecting any kind of bed sheet, not just ones made from egyptian cotton. It is important because if you are only particular to certain thread counts, you are also limited to what kind of bed sheets you can buy for your bedroom.
A quick guide to decorating your bed using bed sheets
As mentioned previously, a disorganized environment can lead to a disorganized mind, which can also lead to a struggle to concentrate when we need to concentrate the most: In our own homes.
It is for this reason why it is a very good idea to choose bed sheets that allow your bedroom to look orderly but not too boring. If the sheets look too boring, it will make the room itself look boring.
However, if the coordination of your bed sheets is too complicated, it will run the risk of making the bedroom look disorderly. Therefore, the best strategy is to choose bed sheets that do not look too boring, but are not too complicated in their design.
People do not think much of bed sheets. They just see it as a necessary item for their bedroom, and overlook how something as supposedly irrelevant as bed sheets can affect how said bed sheets can affect their concept of home decor, and even how they operate in their daily life.
The next time you pick out bed sheets, make sure to choose bed sheets that “make sense” for your bedroom. They should not look too boring, but should not be too complicated in their design either.
