History of the World’s Tallest Buildings

Throughout the ages there have been many remarkable buildings constructed, which have each surpassed the last in terms of height. The Great Pyramid of Giza was built approximately 2560BC, and was originally 146.5 metres tall. Incredibly, the Pyramid held the record of being the world’s tallest structure for almost 4000 years, until the Lincoln Cathedral was constructed in the 14th century.

As the Burj Khalifa celebrated its 5th birthday this year, Irish architecture firm Cantrell & Crowley have created this interactive timeline which showcases the tallest buildings in the world. From Ancient Egypt, through Medieval Europe, to the modern skyscraper, discover how the skylines of the world have evolved.
