Preparing to Move it

Before you attempt to go moving your refrigerator, you are going to want to start taking everything out of it. This includes all food, juices, meats, everything. Remove all the magnets on the fridge. If there are any perishable items in the refrigerator then, you should either eat them, or give them to someone who could use them.

Remove Shelves

Make sure to remove all loose items that will rattle around or slip out. You can wrap the shelves in towels and stack them together so they won’t get damaged. Put them somewhere safe. If you don’t want to take the shelves out you can always tape them into the fridge so they won’t fall out. But, some shelves don’t even come out at all.

Unplug The Refrigerator

This should be common sense, but you will want to unplug the fridge. How else are you going to take it with you? You should coil the power cord and tape it up securely. If your refrigerator makes ice, you need to disconnect this from the water.

Defrost The Freezer

If a lot of frost has built up over the time that you have lived there, you may want to let the freezer sit with the door open. This will make sure that all the excess frost melts. This can take up to 8 hours to do, so make sure you prepare for this in advance. In the morning, you can wipe the melted ice out with a towel.

Close And Secure The Doors

Fasten the doors together with something such as a long rope or a bungee chord. If the fridge is a two-door, make sure that you tie the handles together, so the door doesn’t open while you are in the process of taking it to your new home.

Use A Moving Dolly

A moving dolly will come in handy and help you easily move the fridge. You should be able to slide the dolly right under. Make sure the dolly is tied up with the fridge, that way it can hang on without someone having to hold onto it tightly.

Tilt The Fridge

Tilt the dolly towards you, and move in the direction of the tilt. Make sure you move slowly and don’t overdue it. We don’t want you to hurt yourself in the process.

Load The Fridge

Most moving trucks will have a ramp that you can easily roll up and place into your truck. You need at least three people for this task, at least; you should have. One per rolls up the ram with the dolly as two other people help to push it up.

Place Fridge In New Place

From here it is just since and repeat. Once you get to your new home it is pretty much the same idea. Enjoy your new home and remember to always to get help when moving something like this.
