The children are spending less and less time outside and they are mostly cooped up inside, tapping at their tablets, playing video games and watching TV. This is not only bad for their health, but it can also impair their social skills due to the fact that they do not spend time with their friend, playing and solving their own problems.
As parents, we have an obligation to do well by our children and one of the ways in which we can do this is by turning our backyards into places where our children will love spending their time, perhaps inviting some of their friends over for some good old-fashioned playtime. We would like to share a few DIY ideas with you that will turn your backyard into the perfect playground for the little ones.

Bring art into your backyard
If there is one thing kids love to do, then it is to draw and paint and even sculpt things if they have the material. It is very easy to get them to do it outside. All you need is a bit of that paint that can turn any surface into blackboard. You just paint a part of your fence with this paint and your children will have the perfect canvas for their art and games. You can also set aside an area where they will be able to play with clay and paint for as much as they want, without worrying that they might make a mess of it.
Install a swing
You know how whenever you go to a playground, there is never a free swing? Well, that is because kids love swings. They do not care what they look like, how big they are and whether they squeak when you use them. They just want to swing. Installing a swing in your backyard is one of the easiest projects that you can think of and brings the kids so much joy. You can even put up one of those huge things where the whole family can lie down for a swing or two, or alternatively a whole bunch of kids.
Build a tree house
A tree house is a true classic and there are tons of reasons why this is the case. Firstly, it is a great building project that you and your children can undertake together. Let them be involved in the planning and building process; let them learn about using tools and making stuff with their hands. Next, once it is done, a tree house is a great place for your children to hang out and have their privacy. It is also a great place to play with their friends who will be flocking in your backyard after you build the tree house.
Put in some sports equipment
One of the best things for children and one of their favorite things is playing sports. Your backyard can easily be turned into a football stadium, a basketball court or a baseball pitch or a tennis court. The kids do not care about regulations and proper sizes of these athletic arenas. They just want a goal here, a basket there, a tennis net there and they can start their own Olympics. It would be madness not to feature any of these in your backyard.
Reuse old stuff
There are ton of other projects that you can do in your garden to turn it into playground for the kids and the best thing is that you can reuse old stuff that you have lying all around. For instance, wooden planks that you can get from packaging wooden crates can be used to make a giant xylophone and any old tires that you have lying around can be filled with soil and built up into a pyramid where the children will be able to play.
Closing word
One thing to remember at all times is that you need to ensure that all of your projects are safe and that the end results will not pose any danger to the children. Always use the best material you can find and follow any and all instructions that you can find on how to do these projects.
