If you’re planning on selling your home, then you’ve probably considered doing some DIY to try to increase the market value of your property before you put it up for sale. Almost all home improvements will add some value to your home, but which ones offer the best return on investment?
This useful infographic shows the average increase in house prices associated with various home improvement jobs, and shows how that price differs across the country. The infographic doesn’t state how much each job costs, but it’s still interesting reading material. Here are a few highlights:
- Loft conversions add an average of £16,152 to the value of a home
- Fitting new windows adds £4,866
- A new bathroom adds £2,955
- New carpets add £1,738
As you might expect, more expensive jobs add more value. If you can find cheap carpets on sale and install them yourself, you could make a tidy profit when you come to sell your home. That doesn’t make loft conversions and other major upgrades a bad investment, however – especially if you plan on staying in your home a while before you sell it. If you enjoy the addition, then you are getting your money’s worth!
