Some people do this on a regular basis, and once you have experienced moving, you can appreciate why they say that it can be one of the most stressful things that the average person can do. There is not only the stress of getting everything packed up and loaded onto the vehicle, but if this is not done properly, you may end up damaging your belongings. Sofa, Chairs, and Tables
Two of the most expensive items we usually have in your living room and dining room are your sofas, chairs, and tables. This means that you will need to make sure that these are wrapped and protected when you are moving home. Some tables and chairs are modular, which means you can take the legs off, which will make them easier to transport safely. For furniture pieces that are not modular, you will need to make sure that you wrap the corners and edges of the tables and chairs with cardboard, and then wrap them in plastic wrap; this will help to protect them during transit. You will also need to do the same with your sofa. Remove all of the cushions and wrap them up, so that they do not get dirty or damaged when you are moving them.
Flat Pack Furniture
You may think that flat-pack furniture is going to be easy to move as you can take it apart for when you move. Although this is true, such furniture piece may lose some of its structural integrity, meaning it can be more likely to get damaged during transit. Make sure that you have a plastic bag ready for when you take the furniture apart, and keep all of the screws and fittings in it, marking on the bag which item of furniture it is from. You may wish to use a small box for the smaller items, but the larger items you will need to wrap in cardboard. Ideally, you will want to wrap as many pieces together in one go, but make sure that you are still going to be able to lift it.
Everything Else
Once all of your large pieces of furniture are wrapped and loaded on the truck, you will just need to concentrate on everything else. For this, you are going to need plenty of boxes and packing tape. If you get a tape dispenser, this makes assembling and sealing the boxes a whole lot easier. You will need to make sure that you pack all of the heavier items at the bottom of the box, being careful to not pack too many things into the one box. Also, make sure that you use plenty of packing material so the contents do not move too much when in transit. Then seal the box with plenty of packing tape, and use a marker to write a short description of the contents.
