How often should you have your home inspected for pests?

It’s all too easy to have an “It will not happen to me” attitude, when it comes to pest infestations. But, it really is not worth taking a chance. Making sure that your home is regularly inspected for pests can help ward off infestations that may otherwise happen. Neglecting to maintain a regular inspection program may seem like it’s saving you money, but that is often not the case.

One of the most important things you can do to protect your home, is to have a pest inspection carried out on a regular basis. It’s worth the investment, to prevent the serious damage that may otherwise occur.

How often do inspections need to be carried out?

There is no hard and fast rule, when it comes to deciding in how often a pest inspection is needed. As a general rule, it’s a good idea to get a pest control professional to take a look at your property every twelve months. But, if you live in an area where pests, such as termites, are common you should think about reducing the time between inspections, to around six months. If you have pest control work carried out, the exterminator will advise you about future inspections which may be necessary.

During the inspection process, the experts will check out your home for any potential access points for pests. They will also determine if there is any sign that pests are present in your home. Once all of this is done, they will speak to you about the recommended extermination process, if one is needed. If you have any concerns about having an inspection carried out, you can find out more about the process.

What can happen if you do not have your home inspected?

We have already mentioned that choosing not to pay for a pest inspection does not always save you money. This is because, when pests get into your home, they can start to cause a lot of damage. Rats and raccoons can chew through wiring which can cause problems that are expensive to put right. It can also be dangerous. These creatures can also chew through the wooden structures of your home; as can termites.

Termites can be especially difficult to deal with, without having regular inspections carried out. This is because they can be very difficult to spot, until they have already caused a considerable amount of damage. You can find yourself having to pay thousands of dollars to have damage fixed, that could have been prevented by spending a lot less money on a pest inspection.

There can be environmental factors which make it a good idea to have pest inspections carried out frequently. For instance, you may live in an area where termite infestations are common. Even if you do not live in an area with a known problem, it’s still a good idea to get a pest control expert to take a look at your property around every twelve months.
