Have you prepared your home for spring?

After a long and dreary winter, spring is finally here! And for all you cleaning fanatics this can only mean one thing: it’s time to get your rubber gloves on and start spring cleaning your home. There is plenty do in and around your home, we as an estate agent in Oval have come up with some tips to help…

Spring Cleaning

1. Look at the exterior of your house

We all know winter can take its toll, especially on our property. It’s always a good idea to check your gutters are clear and in one piece. While you’re looking at the outside of your house, ensure your roof tiles are all still in place. We won’t want missing tiles, right?

Lastly the windows, after all that rain the first thing we want to do is get rid of the dirt and water stains. So grab yourself a sponge and some hot soapy water and start whipping down those windows, don’t forget the doors or patios.

2. Prepare your garden

It’s never too early to start preparing your garden. We’re sure you want to start hosting those garden parties. But the first thing you need to do is give that garden a real tidy up; clean away all the leaves, give the grass a cut, clear the pathways and get the pressure washer out. You’re then well on your way to start getting out the garden furniture and preparing invites for that long awaited bbq.

3. Cleaning up your clutter

Now its time to tackle your clutter, which probably sounds like the most daunting task of all. You need to be ruthless. Start off with one room at a time, have a good glace over everything and ask yourself “do I really need this?” and think back to the last time you used it. If this item is broken, throw it away or take it for recycling, but if it’s not broken yet you no longer have a use for it, take it down to your local charity shop.

The final task for decluttering is organising your clothes. If you haven’t worn something within the last year, then chances are you’re probably not going to wear it again, so pack all your old and out of season clothes and take those along to the charity shop. If you’re looking for some extra wardrobe space, pack away all your winter clothes and store them in plastic boxes or even suitcases so they’re ready for next winter.

Spring cleaning your home may seem like an impossible task, but once you’ve cleaned your house from all that unnecessary clutter you’ll be ready to kick back and enjoy the summer.
